Demonstration of Heterogeneous Parahydrogen Induced Polarization Using Hyperpolarized Agent Migration from Dissolved Rh(I) Complex to Gas Phase

Parahydrogen-induced polarization (PHIP) was used to demonstrate the concept that highly polarized, catalyst-free fluids can be obtained in a catalysis-free regime using a chemical reaction with molecular addition of parahydrogen to a water-soluble Rh(I) complex carrying a payload of compound with unsaturated (C═C) bonds. Hydrogenation of norbornadiene leads to formation of norbornene, which is...

Hyperpolarized NMR Probes for Biological Assays

During the last decade, the development of nuclear spin polarization enhanced (hyperpolarized) molecular probes has opened up new opportunities for studying the inner workings of living cells in real time. The hyperpolarized probes are produced ex situ, introduced into biological systems and detected with high sensitivity and contrast against background signals using high resolution NMR spectro...

Enhancement of SQUID-detected NMR signals with hyperpolarized liquid 129Xe in a 1 microT magnetic field.

We report an enhancement of proton NMR signals by a factor of 10(6) by cross polarization with hyperpolarized liquid 129Xe in an ultralow magnetic field of 1 microT. The NMR signals from cyclopentane, acetone, and methanol are detected using a commercial high-T(c) SQUID magnetometer with a signal-to-noise ratio of up to 1000 from a single 90 degrees tipping pulse. This technique allows a wide r...

Hyperpolarized 13C NMR studies of glucose metabolism in living breast cancer cell cultures.

The recent development of dissolution dynamic nuclear polarization (DNP) gives NMR the sensitivity to follow metabolic processes in living systems with high temporal resolution. In this article, we apply dissolution DNP to study the metabolism of hyperpolarized U-(13)C,(2)H7-glucose in living, perfused human breast cancer cells. Spectrally selective pulses were used to maximize the signal of th...

Development of an NMR interface microchip "MICCS" for direct detection of reaction products and intermediates of micro-syntheses using a "MICCS-NMR".

The development of an NMR interface microchip and its applications to the real-time monitoring of chemical reactions are described. The microchip device was named "MICCS" (MIcro Channeled Cell for Synthesis monitoring), and the method using it was named "MICCS-NMR". MICCS was inserted into a 5 mm Phi NMR sample tube. Thus standard solution NMR probes without any modifications can be used in MIC...
